New President for 2014

Posted by KingsburgArtsCenter on March 10, 2014 at 12:25 AM Comments comments (0)

We have a new president for 2014. Pam Kjar has served us faithfully and well over the past two years.

She has encouraged us, supported us and handled all the time-consuming and difficult issues that have arisen: as our membership has aged, we have experienced difficulty in getting members who are able to sit the gallery due to age and illness. Many of our members have had to quit due to ill health. Pam has stepped in, sometimes sitting two or three times a month so we could keep the gallery open.

In 2014, Sandra Dobbs will take over as president and I am sure our members will afford her the same support and encouragement that Pam has given us.

As many of you are aware, our main difficulty over the past two years has been recruiting enough members sit the gallery so  we can keep our gallery open. The Board has decided that instead of closing, we will shorten the hours we are open.  Gallery traffic is slowest during the first of the week. In order to better reflect Kingsburg’s status as a “bedroom community” it has been decided that beginning March 17 with the new exhibit, the gallery will be open from Thursday through Saturday when the foot traffic is highest. The hours 11 AM — 3 PM will stay the same.

We are attempting to begin a new program for local authors called  “Featured Writer”. If you know of any local writers who would be willing to become a part of the gallery, please send their contact information to either Gail , Sandra or Pam.

Beginning in January, Gail will be preparing a monthly sales report to turn into the treasurer. This report will be prepared using the receipts in the sales book. A copy of the report will be kept in the top left hand desk drawer. Hopefully we will be better able to see how much volume we are doing.

John Boyd will be stepping down as Treasurer so that he and Vanita can travel more in their retirement. Polly Halford  who has been a mainstay of the gallery has agreed to take over John’s Duties as Treasurer.

Communicating Better with You

Welcome to the first Art Center Newsletter. As your new president, we (meaning my board and I) would like to keep you better informed on what's going on at the Center. The changes we have made are small, but it is to help keep the center open. We raised the commission from 15% to 20%. This extra money will help pay for the newsletter and more. We are looking for a Secretary and a Refreshment Chairperson for our board of 2013. If you are interested in helping please call Pam Kjar at 897-4449. We are looking forward to having more communication with you. We need all of you. Thank you Gail for the newsletter and thank you members for your support. Hope to see you at our next demo in September.

Sincerely,

Pam Kjar, President
